Messi is back
Hey, you, Messi, get back over here.

On Monday it was announced with underwhelming enthusiasm that Edgardo Bauza would be the new coach of the Argentina National Football Team and yesterday, Bauza announced his priority in this nation’s most important leadership position was winning back Lionel Andrés Messi.

In case you’ve forgotten, although I know you haven’t forgotten and you’re still mourning to the soundtrack of #NoTeVayasMessi that Spotify so compassionately compiled, Messi shattered Argentine hearts by resigning from la Sección after losing to Chile in the Copa America final for the second year in a row. The country rationally reacted with statues and letters and marches but has yet to convince la pulga to stay.

Maybe now that Messi has changed his hair it means he’ll change his mind about la Sección too but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Bauza understands what a “tremendous responsibility” now lies in his hands and said that he will “maybe” travel to Spain this weekend to see Messi and “talk about football.” I would have probably gone with begging or graveling but Bauza has said that he will not try to convince Messi to return but talk about the game and his career in the albicelesteinstead. Whatever it takes Bauza, I just can’t take any more rumors playing with my emotions.

There’s reason to have faith in Bauza as he has yet to picture the team without Messi. He also said that he hopes Messi returns “because he deserves better. Everyone says he was a failure. He was runner-up, he was not a failure.” That’s really cute, Bauza, you’ve earned my trust.

Shockingly, the coach’s responsibilities do go beyond swooning over football stars: Bauza has to submit his roster for the 2018 World Cup by September 1 and prepare for their first qualifying game against Uruguay. However, Bauza will not be submitting a roster before talking with Messi because Messi will help the team “a lot” and “it would be key to start winning.”
